Where is the best place to see the eclipse?

Not all of San Antonio will experience totality on Monday, so if you want to be in the dark, here’s where you need to be.

It will be over twenty years before you can see another eclipse like this, you don’t want to miss it. Here some things to keep in mind. Only the northern and western parts of San Antonio are in the path of totality, so if you are downtown or on the east side, you will miss out. The closer you get to the middle of the path the longer it will last. For example, Sea World will get 2 minutes 11 seconds of totality, Six Flags Fiesta Texas 2 minutes 30 seconds, while the Airport will get less than a minute. If you are ok with crazy traffic, Boerne will get over three and a half minutes of totality.

The Problem will be finding a place to park in these areas. There are several city parks in the path, expect them to fill up fast. That leaves shopping centers and other large parking lots, again expect them to fill up fast.

Traffic will be heavy to say the least, give yourself plenty of time to get where you are going and make sure you have plenty of gas before you head out.

Here is an interactive map, you can zoom in to find your best location.
