August 16th, 2018, without a doubt, one of the saddest days for music as we lose the queen of soul, Aretha Franklin herself.

Today in 1986, it’s a triumphant day. It’s the Monsters of Rock at Donington Castle in England. Kind of a soggy day, but an ovation happens when Def Leppard’s own thunder god, Rick Allen, takes the stage the first time since he lost his arm 20 months earlier and the crowd goes nuts for him.

On this date in 1977, sadly, we lose the undisputed king of rock and roll, Elvis Aaron Presley. His effect, his influence over rock and roll cannot be overstated.

Today in 1969, the second day of Woodstock. Some of the people to appear, the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Janis Joplin, Santana, and The Who.
