September 9th, 2014, U2 anger over 500 million iTunes users by giving them their latest album, “Songs of Innocence”, for free. Now, they never asked for permission. It just showed up in people’s libraries. And let me tell you, there are a lot of people who are very angry about it.
Today in 2007, sadly, we lose guitarist Hughie Thomasson, the driving force behind The Outlaws. And in later years, a member of Lynyrd Skynyrd, he passes away of a heart attack at only 55 years old.
On this day in 1992, MTV’s Video Music Awards. Nirvana goes on, performs their song “Lithium.” At the end of the performance, bassist Krist Novoselic takes his bass and throws it in the air. Instead of catching it when it comes down, it hits him in the head and knocks him to the ground.
And today in 1982, Rush released their 9th album, “Signals”, which includes the single “Subdivisions”, which becomes a huge part of their live performances for many years.
And then as we look at today’s calendar, we find a rock birthday on it. soul man extraordinaire, Otis Redding.
