August 23rd, 2007, Brian May of Queen earns a degree from London’s Imperial College. Now, a lot of rockers get these honorary degrees, but Brian actually worked for this one. It’s a degree in astrophysics, and he is, in reality, Dr. Brian May.
Today in 1969, The Stones hit number one on the charts with “Honky Tonk Women” for the first of four weeks.
On this day in 1968, Ringo Starr walks out of “The White Album” sessions to take a little vacation. While he’s gone, Paul McCartney plays drums on a few songs, but the band does welcome him back, and when he comes back into the studio, he finds his drum kit covered in flowers.
Then as we take a look at today’s calendar, we’ve got a couple rock birthdays on it. One, Mr. Rick Springfield, and the other one, drummer and all-around madman from The Who, the one and only Keith Moon.
