April 3rd, 1980 Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders are on tour and playing in Memphis. They drop into a bar and Chrissie gets into an altercation and ends up getting arrested. When they put her in the back of the police cruiser, she kicks the window out. Despite that, she is released in time for the band to make their scheduled concert appearance.
Today in 1967 The Who peak at #97 on the charts with “I Can’t Explain.” This is the band’s first appearance on the US charts. The song had a rhythm guitar player on the session whose track never made it to the final mix. The guitar player was future Led Zeppelin guitarist Jimmy Page.
A couple Canadians share today as their birthday, former singer from Skid Row and current singer for Twisted Sister, Sebastian Bach, and from The Band, the late Richard Manuel.
