Guess who the first-person Peter Frampton called when he heard about his Rock Hall honor.

Peter Frampton

Did you watch the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony?  I did, it had some really cool moments and a few that were ok. I guess you have to be familiar with the artist to truly appreciate the performance and guest artist. The standout for me was Billy Idol doing Ozzy’s No more tears.

Another was Peter Frampton, I, as well as others, didn’t realize that he was not already in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He has had a major impact on rock.

He first became interested in music when he was seven years old when he found his grandmother’s banjolele in the attic, which he taught himself to play it. He then taught himself  guitar and piano as well. He was in his first band at 12 with some school friends including David Bowie. Frampton would hit the big time at 18 years old when he joined Humble Pie as Guitarist and song writer. While playing with Humble Pie Frampton also did session recording with George Harrison, Harry Nilsson, Jerry Lee Lewis, and John Entwistle’s Whistle Rymes. In 1971 he left Humble Pie to start his solo career, which got off to a slow start, it wasn’t until 1976 with the release of Frampton comes Alive, that things would take off.

Things would cool quickly for him after he starred, alongside the Bee Gees in the movie Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band. A weird little film that was packed with stars but failed to make an impact, other than to put Peter Frampton in somewhat of a negative light.  During this time, he was still working as a guitarist on some big projects. Did you know Peter Frampton played guitar on the title song of the 1978 film Grease?

Throughout the years Peter Frampton has continued to tour and contribute to projects with some of the biggest names in music.  to paraphrase his induction speech, he sees himself as a guitarist first and for most.

There is so much more to this story than I’ve touched on, but you get the idea, YES, it is well past the time to make Peter Frampton a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Below is Peter’s reaction to his honor, you won’t believe who was the first person he called when he found out. Oh, and I thought you would like to check out his movie debut that clip is below as well as a bonus clip.
