September 1st, 1977, Rush get their first gold album with “A Farewell To Kings.” Now the album has epic songs on it, stuff like “Xanadu”, which is definitely there to satisfy their cult following, but also more radio friendly songs like “Closer To The Heart”, which is there to help bring the band to the mainstream. Now with “A Farewell To Kings” going gold, it helps because it pushes their previous album, “2112″, to go gold as well.
Today in 1967, Boz Scaggs joins the band of his childhood friend Steve Miller. That band, obviously, The Steve Miller band.
Also on this day in 1967, The Beatles meet at Paul McCartney’s house to discuss what they’re going to do now that their manager, Brian Epstein, has passed away and they decide that Paul will take on a much more managerial role in the band.
And then today in 1957, in Seattle, a young Jimi Hendrix goes and sees Elvis Presley live in concert.
