Watch John Doe Talk New Album “Fables in a Foreign Land” And More

Songwriter, poet, actor, author and punk John Doe spoke to us about his new album “Fables in a Foreign Land”, punks who’ve gone folk and a lot more.

Friday May 20th, 2022 John Doe is releasing his new solo album “Fables in a Foreign Land”.

The album is made up of songs that take place in the 1890′s.

The songs are pre industrial stories that involve pursuit, and at least one murder ballad.

John had collaborators and guests that include Shirley Manson of Garbage, former X band mate Exene Cervenka and more.

We recently had a chance to catch up with John via Zoom at his home in Austin.

John shared a bit about the writing and recording process during our conversation.

We spoke about Biblical references and imagery in the songs.

Part of our discussion also involved the number of punk musicians who have ended up pursuing Americana and Folk music.

Below you can check out our conversation, below that you’ll find videos for a few of the album’s songs and upcoming tour dates.
