In 1967 Arlo Guthrie released his debut album “Alice’s Restaurant”.
The title track was a true story about a Thanksgiving meal and how it lead to Arlo’s arrest for littering.
Even though the song clocks in at over 18 minutes it became a hit.
In 1969 it was even made into a movie.
Below is a video of the song.
They took the song’s original audio and edited together with parts of the film.
Arlo announced his retirement from touring earlier this year in a social media post that began “It’s been a great 50+ years of being a working entertainer, but I reached the difficult decision that touring and stage shows are no longer possible. I’ve cancelled the upcoming shows, and am not accepting offers for new ones. That’s the short version.”
For the longer version of Arlo’s retirement announcement you can see the Facebook post below the video.
