How To Help

Red Cross

The Red Cross is mobilizing trained Red Cross disaster relief workers to support this response effort, and has more than shelters ready to open and support thousands of people if needed. Trailers full of shelter and relief supplies have been pre-positioned including cots, blankets, comfort and cleaning supplies.

Donate: Visit, call 1-800-RED CROSS or text the word REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.

Salvation Army

The Salvation Army has already begun collecting funds to help those affected by the storm. Though most people think of donating clothing or household items first, SA spokesperson Alvin Migues, said physical donations can be a challenge during a disaster.

“Then you have to spend manpower to deal with sorting and other things as they come into the warehouses instead of having those folks out in the field doing the work," he said. "So, we always asked people to send a cash donation instead,” he said.

Donate: You can donate cash online at or by phone at 1-800-725-2769.

South Texas Blood and Tissue Center

The STBTC is in need of blood donations. The center says although O negative and O positive blood is at critically low levels, all blood type donations are welcome. The center is asking the public in the San Antonio and New Braunfels areas to donate right now.

Donate: Visit or call 210-731-5590 to schedule an appointment to donate blood.

Texas Diaper Bank

"Diapers are not provided by disaster relief agencies," the TDB posted on Facebook Friday. To alleviate that need, the TDB is requesting donations of cash and diapers to provide emergency diaper kits for families that are being displaced due to Hurricane Harvey.

Donate: Visit the donation page at and designate your donation for Disaster Relief.

San Antonio Food Bank

The San Antonio Food Bank has been hard at work. Their disaster expenses are not budgeted so they’re asking for your help to continue to meet the need of families seeking shelter in our community. Donate here.

How to Prepare for a Hurricane

South Texas Blood and Tissue Center

The center of Tropical Storm Harvey was located southeast of Palacios, off the Mid Texas Coast. The center of Harvey is forecast to turn northeast and north Tuesday. The center of Harvey is then forecast to move back onshore into the Upper Texas Coast and far East Texas on Wednesday.

With Harvey pulling away to the east the threat for heavy rainfall along the I-35 corridor has ended. Some moderate bands of rain, wrapping around the northwest side of Harvey, could still impact Lavaca, Fayette, and Lee counties tonight. An additional 1/2 to 2 inches of rain is possible in this area. Less than 1/4 of additional rainfall is possible elsewhere.

Disastrous river flooding will continue for days along the Colorado River and Guadalupe river basins east of I-35.

There are designated shelter facilities around the city. Those shelters are “always ready to go,” but the city currently is making preparations for all the necessities, including enough beds for evacuees. Many of the facilities include large warehouses that have been retrofitted as sleeping quarters and meeting areas.

All evacuees should check in at 200 Gembler Road, just northeast of the AT&T Center.

Arrington said evacuees with pets can also go to the Gembler check-in point, but pets can’t stay in the same facilities as people. All pets, with the exception of service animals, will be kept in separate facilities. However, the city will provide shuttle service so people can visit their animals.

The city’s Animal Care Services department also is looking for people to foster animals, so they can clear out kennels in preparation for evacuees arriving with their pets.

San Antonio is asking any volunteers wanting to help to call 311.

Hear Phil Collen Of Def Leppard...

Def Leppard have been pretty busy over the last couple years.

They released their self titled album at the end of 2015.

Hitting the road after it's release they had to have a temporary replacement at times on the road for Vivian Campbell who was fighting cancer.

They also postponed some dates so Joe Elliott could rest his voice.

Then they came back hitting hard and released their live DVD "And There Will Be A Next Time - Live From Detroit".

They bring this incredible live spectacle to the River City Rockfest on Saturday May 27th.

I spoke with guitarist Phil Collen about all that plus his side project Delta Deep and more.
